Medoids
Today we played around with this concept of cluster analysis. We categorised the open questions of the Teamframes questionnaire and now we are trying to see if the respondents answers are in some way grouped. The picture below shows the daily result. the goal now is to determine which factor mostly contributed to define the centres of the ellipses, namely the “medoids”. this will help us to make distinction in the population of the students to try to find good conclusions out of the analysis of this questionnaire. Some ideas for the paper on the Location professionals
Understanding the needs of professionals for which location matters, like firemen. –> comparisons of the two groups –> location awareness model –> outcome: set of requirements for a location awareness tool.
The framework can be situated cognition: the context is a resource for the reasoning or problem solving or cognitive activity. In the context of geologist they explained that when they have to measure something at a specific location they memorise the area (if there is a river, a road, …) plus they take a picture of this place with a camera, plus they record the GPS location, they write it on their notebook or on their map. All this tasks to help them to remember.
We can focus on the comparison of the two groups.
RDFMapper
This is an example of linking pictures or other content to a geographical map. There is a useful framework on their internet site, although is quite simple.
One nice feature would be the ability to go from the map, with a click, to enter a new post. In fact, it is unlucky that you are going around with a GPS all the time, unless you have it on your mobile …
Mogi item hunt
Mogi is a community game where a web player can help a mobile player to get closer to a virtual object. An instant communication can help the two kinds of user to get in touch.
The system offer a 3D view on the internet which translates into a 2D view on the mobile phone. From the technological point of view the system uses an hybrid positioning system GPS plus Radio cell.
The pictures hereafter are takes from the game internet site.
