Ecologies of Participation

Christian Heath concentrated his recent work on defining the kind of interactions which happens in Museum Exhibit. One of his idea is that current exhibit, even the multimedia content offered, is designed for individual usage, where the kind of interactions that happen is an ecology of connections among the objects, the user, his friends/peers and strangers passing by. In this sense he argues that we need to re-conceive the way we structure the interaction both in work place and public environment.

He also argues that CSCW continues to prioritise individuals rather than the group. The experience you have in a museum derives from the interaction that happens to be within the people in the same space. His point is that this kind of exhibits don’t give enough importance to group collaboration and cooperation.
